Information about the club
Österåkers Golf Club, beautifully situated in an open and rolling landscape in the Ljusterö archipelago just north of Stockholm, is one of Sweden's most modern, visionary and technically advanced golf facilities. The club was founded in 1988 but has in recent years undergone one of the most extensive and notable transformations in Swedish golf history. By completely renovating its courses to an uncompromising international top standard, Österåkers Golf Club has positioned itself as an absolute premium destination, where world-class course architecture meets an impeccable finish and a modern Country Club feel.
The monumental lift of the facility is the result of close collaboration with the world-renowned and award-winning course architecture firm Henrik Stenson Golf Design. Henrik Stenson's vision was to create a modern, strategic and visually striking championship facility that can challenge the world's elite while offering high levels of playing pleasure for members and guests. The courses are characterized by their uncompromising construction with sand-built fairways, spectacular lake systems and a finish that is often compared to a perfectly cut living room carpet. Thanks to the extremely high construction standards, the courses offer fast, firm playing surfaces and fantastic quality over a long season.
Österåkers Golf Club offers two full-fledged 18-hole courses in absolutely top condition as well as training facilities that set a whole new standard for Swedish golf:
- The Beacon Course: The resort's spectacular flagship (Par 72) and the first course in Sweden designed entirely by Henrik Stenson. The course is characterized by its large, dramatically shaped bunkers, swaying fescue grass and a distinct "risk-and-reward" concept where strategically placed lakes constantly challenge the player's nerves. The enormous, lightning-fast greens are guarded by ingenious run-offs, which places unique demands on precision in the shots and offers a fantastic, international championship challenge.
- The Links Course (formerly Västerled): A fantastic and highly regarded 18-hole course that has undergone the same total renovation to offer a pure inland links character. The course offers open, wind-sensitive fields, undulating fairways and deep, strategically placed bunkers. It is somewhat more forgiving from the tee than The Beacon Course but instead places high demands on a sharp and well-thought-out short game around the challenging green areas.
- Henrik Stenson Golf Academy: The practice areas at Österåker are among the absolute best in northern Europe. The state-of-the-art driving range is fully equipped with the latest TrackMan technology in each tee box, allowing you to measure your shots in real time. The gigantic putting greens and the tailor-made short-game areas accurately reflect the extreme quality and speed of the courses, creating an absolute paradise for training.
- Clubhouse and Gastronomy: The stylish and modern clubhouse serves as the heart of the facility and exudes a warm and exclusive atmosphere. Here you will find one of Stockholm's best-stocked pro shops and fresh facilities. The club's acclaimed restaurant is a very popular meeting place where you can enjoy first-class food based on seasonal ingredients, best enjoyed on the large terrace with panoramic views of the courses' dramatic final holes.
Thanks to Henrik Stenson's ingenious design, the club's visionary leadership and the uncompromising pursuit of perfection, Österåkers Golf Club is an absolute must-visit for every passionate golfer. It is a complete facility where the latest technology meets traditional golf culture and delivers an absolutely world-class overall experience.
Playing tips for Österåker: On The Beacon Course, playing strategy and ball placement are much more important than raw strength from the tee. Don't be fooled by the generous landing areas; placing the ball on the right side of the fairway is absolutely crucial to get a good angle towards the well-guarded greens and avoid the difficult drainage areas. Also, have great respect for the lightning-fast greens and plan your putts with great care!
