Information about the club
Visby Golf Club, beautifully situated on Kronholmen's unique pine-clad sand dune just south of Västerhejde on Gotland, is widely regarded as one of Sweden's – and all of Europe's – absolute best and most spectacular golf courses. The course is a classic seaside and links course where almost every hole offers a striking view of the open, sparkling Baltic Sea. Playing at Kronholmen is not just a round of golf, but an extraordinary nature experience where the changing winds of the sea, the rugged Gotland nature and the historical environment create a magical atmosphere.
The club was founded in 1958 and has undergone fantastic development over the years. The big milestone came in the mid-2000s when the well-known course architect Pierre Fulke, together with Adam Mednicksson, was commissioned to completely renovate the 18-hole course. The result was a modern championship course of international top class that faithfully pays tribute to the traditional Scottish links character, while blending in perfectly with the Gotland coast. The course is constantly ranked at the absolute top when magazines such as Golf Digest list the best courses in Sweden and the Nordic countries.
Visby Golf Club offers a complete and high-class golf facility with a total of 27 holes and fantastic facilities that appeal to both demanding elite players and enjoyable social golfers:
- 18-hole course (Kronholmen Course): The resort's world-famous flagship (Par 72). The course is characterized by its hard, fast fairways and undulating greens guarded by strategic, deep bunkers and windswept pines. Here you play in direct contact with the sea, and the character of the course changes completely depending on how hard the wind blows from the Baltic Sea. The iconic holes along the shoreline, where the sound of the waves accompanies your strokes, are among the most photographed and loved in all of Golf Sweden.
- 9-hole course: A fantastic and fully-fledged 9-hole loop that maintains a very high standard. It works perfectly for a faster round, as a warm-up for the main course, or for less experienced players who want to experience Kronholmen's unique environment in a slightly more forgiving but still challenging format.
- Training areas and Academy: Visby GK has first-class training facilities. The spacious driving range, well-maintained putting greens and dedicated areas for short-course and bunker play are ideal for honing your form under the guidance of the club's professional coaching team.
- Kronholmen Clubhouse and Restaurant: The modern and stylish clubhouse houses a well-stocked pro shop with the latest in golf equipment and fashion. It is also home to the highly acclaimed restaurant, where you can enjoy first-class food based on Gotland ingredients while watching the sun set over the sea from the fantastic terrace.
Thanks to its unique location on Gotland, Visby Golf Club is one of the country's most popular destinations for golf trips. The club offers excellent accommodation options directly adjacent to the course via its exclusive and modern cottages, making it possible to wake up with a view of the fairways and take the few steps to the first tee. The proximity to Visby's historic city center also makes it easy to combine world-class golf with culture, shopping and fantastic restaurant visits.
Playing tips for Kronholmen: The most important tool at Visby Golf Club is not your driver, but your ability to control the flight of the ball. When the wind blows from the sea, it is important to be able to hit low, controlled shots ("stingers") and to play strategically to keep the ball on the dry, hard fairways. Playing the ball along the ground is often the surest way to a good score on this fantastic course!
